Well, today morning, I cam across two major news from Google. The first is very obvious, Google Page Rank update & Second is, Larry Page is now taking a charge as Google CEO. I don’t know whether this is just a coincidence Or there are some correlation.  The first thing, like every other SEO professional I did was, checking up my client’s domain PR, and am glad that its improved :)

But, story didn’t end here as my analytical habit forced me to look at it in more detail. So, What I noticed ? Read the rest of this entry »

Hello Friends,

New year brings a new joy to life, new hope, new commitment & new way of life. I think, with the new year, we will witness some major changes in SEO as well. I was reading a latest news on SEO & there is one headline which captured my attention & that is Google PageRank. Well, No, its not about Google PageRank update as you might have think about, but this is something which you didn’t have imagined.

Google will loose its Toolbar PageRank : Rights reserved to Standford University

Yes, Google might lose its exclusive rights to use Pagerank this year. The fact is Stanford University actually owns the patent to “PageRank”, and Google has exclusive licensing rights to it- but only until 2011.

So, May be thats the reason, we have not seen any major update in Google Toolbar PageRank since last April,2010 & may be we will not see in the near future. The possibilities are many. May be Google get extension just like the last time or may be Google introduce some kind of Trust Rank or may be they just ignore it & completely focus on their algorithm update.

Google Webmaster Forum thread refers that, “The PageRank patents held by Stanford do not refer to a toolbar, but rather a process of calculating a probability that if one were to start from one page on the web, that they might end up upon another specific page.”

So, What do you think ? Will Google remove the Toolbar PageRank ? Will it effect your SEO efforts ? Eagerly waiting to have a thoughtful discussion over here. This sounds like really interesting topic to me.

Hello Friends,

Many of you are following industry updates quite closely & hence I assume that, many of you are aware about the much talked & watched story of Decor My Eyes on NY Times. If not than you can still read it at Search Engine Land as they have covered & analyzed this story very closely.

Well, just to give a brief to those who have not read it yet, New York Times has a great, detailed story out about a merchant with an unusual marketing strategy: be mean to customers. Any publicity, even negative publicity, helps to win with Google’s ranking algorithms.

“Hello, My name is Stanley with DecorMyEyes.com,” the post began. “I just wanted to let you guys know that the more replies you people post, the more business and the more hits and sales I get. My goal is NEGATIVE advertisement.”

It’s all part of a sales strategy, he said. Online chatter about DecorMyEyes, even furious online chatter, pushed the site higher in Google search results, which led to greater sales. He closed with a sardonic expression of gratitude: “I never had the amount of traffic I have now since my 1st complaint. I am in heaven.”

So, Do you really think that Negative Advertisement will help in Online Marketing ?

Negative Reviews & Google’s stand on rankings

Well, to all my surprise, Google have indirectly accepted this on their official blog.

“We were horrified to read about Ms. Rodriguez’s dreadful experience. Even though our initial analysis pointed to this being an edge case and not a widespread problem in our search results, we immediately convened a team that looked carefully at the issue. That team developed an initial algorithmic solution, implemented it, and the solution is already live”

Hello Friends,

Recently, I have came across 3 major updates in Google in this month of October,2010. Since last many days there were no major updates announced by Google as compared to other social media channels so these updates are expected but not explored.

Google SERVER TOOL :

Google is constantly trying to make the web faster & thats the reason, page load time is one of the important criteria in SEO. This new tool of Google optimizes web pages at the server level on-the-fly, with no manual work needed. It’s an Apache server module called mod_pagespeed and Google refer it as add-on to last year’s page speed browser add-on.

Google’s product manager,  Richard Rabbat said, “There are 1.2 million users of Page Speed, but it only tells developers what’s wrong with their web site. We wondered, ‘Can we fix it for them?’”
