Last few weeks were really challenging for me & was passing throught the ups & downs of life, though it was difficult but enjoyed it too. Google is no more behind in updating its own algorithm for changes & one such update recently they have announced for the webmasters. Yes, today, I would like to share about the changes / updates announced by Google for XML sitemaps.
Google Update : Mixed Media XML Sitemap
Google announced that they’re now accepting mixed-media XML sitemaps. Now, you must be thinking about, what does it mean ? Well, It simply means that, now you can put images, video and regular page URLs all into the same map. I have tried my hands on this when I got notified about this update. Its been a month since I posted my last post on this blog & my mail box have flooded with the emails with complains that the blog is not getting updated. Well, I can not afford to let go my readers like that & hence here is some interesting post for you friends. No, Its not an ordinary article on “NoFollow” attribute, but this is purely based on my research which I have done as a part of my project recently. I would love to know your thoughts & experience about this. So, here you go.
How Google treats “No-Follow” attribute ?
Last week, I was working on an interesting project. The site is comparatively old but does not have a good PR for home page as well as internal pages. The main objective was to get the Service / Product pages in Google SERP ranking. So, I was working hard on back link analysis of successful pages as well as competitor websites which have good rankings in Google. I did good comparative analysis & found few strange patterns. Yes, you get it right, something strange in Backlink patterns. I studied the Google Webmaster Tool to get an idea of how Google treats backlinks patterns.
Now here the great surprise comes to me. I found that, Google shows hardly 10 links for a page which I am targeting & 4 out of 10 links are “No Follow” which has been shown in Google Webmaster Tool. STRANGE … Isn’t it ? As per the Google’s stand on rel=”nofollow”, Google crawler supposed to not follow that particular link. That simply means that, this link is just for the information of visitors & have no value in terms of Google Search Engine, so Why Google needs to count & show this backlink in Webmaster tool ?
On the contrary, I have very good other backlinks for the same page (backlinks from EZine & other reputed PR sites) which has been indexed & shown by Yahoo but Google is not showing up this high reputed backlinks & instead showing up the “No Follow” backlinks. As we all know, Google update its Toolbar PR every 3-4 months and last Google Page Rank update was in January,10. I am fortunate that, after hosting my blog on a new domain I got the Google PR -1 for InnovativeSEO.net, Thanks to all who have shared the link on their blogs & website 
Normally, we get notifications of Google Toolbar update through various forums & groups or social media, but still If you are the busiest person & need some kind of automated reminder which notify & track your PR history & show you the changes as per Google update then I have something to share with you. I was just checking up my twitter profile & suddenly I noticed the Google PR update for my Twitter profile. Its a surprise by Google as just in 1 month, Google has update its Google Toolbar Page Rank information 2 times. As always, this turn out positive for me & my Twitter profile got the PR of 4.

To-day, I was just checking up the SERP rankings for my client website & noticed something unusual. Yes, for few keywords SERP rankings were literally dancing for different data centers. I also checked the various forums of SEO & Webmasters & observed that, people are talking about this, but no one is sure that whats going on. Some believes that, this is all awaited Google caffeine update & some denying it with their own set of arguments, but one thing is for sure that, something going on in the Google data center.
